At Scholes (Elmet) Primary, we pride ourselves on being a happy and healthy place to learn. As a result of our high participation levels in after-school clubs, competitive events and pupil leadership, we’re proud to be awarded School Games Mark Gold.
Did you know we’re one of the few primary schools in the country to have our own pool? Our younger children benefit from small-group swimming sessions which helps to prepare them for Year 3 when they go to Wetherby for more lessons in a larger pool.
The government’s childhood obesity plan has set out the ambition for all children to achieve 60 minutes of physical activity every day (30 minutes in school and 30 minutes outside of school). In response to this, we’ve compiled a physical activity guide suggesting out-of-school physical activities available to families in our local area.
The PE and sport premium is additional funding for physical education and sport in primary schools. The funding is ring-fenced – it can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in school.
To maximise the long-term impact of our PE provision for pupils and staff, we invest the money in various ways and then closely monitor the impact of these initiatives through assessment of children’s skills, staff and pupil feedback, uptake of clubs etc. We are required to report how we do this. Our PE provision plans show how we’re investing the money and the way we closely monitor the impact of these initiatives through assessment of children’s skills, staff and pupil feedback, uptake of clubs etc.
