Spelling activity
This week, Year 3 and 4 have been working hard at understanding apostrophes for singular and plural possession. This week’s spelling activity is to look at the text and correct the mistakes. There are a number of apostrophes that have been used incorrectly. To help, read the text and underline any person or thing that owns something first. Then, decide whether it is singular or plural possession and where the apostrophe should go.
- apostrophes for singular possession (when one thing owns something, such as Mrs Lake‘s jumper or Ben’s coat)
- apostrophes for plural possession (when more than one thing owns something, such as children‘s classroom or dogs‘ tails)

Spelling Activity:
The following words, taken from our Year 3/4 list, use ‘ou’ in the middle, but make different sounds when read.
The task this week is to find a way of remembering how to spell these words. The children can do this in a variety of ways: use doodle pictures (e.g. show thought as a thought bubble and through as a tunnel), rainbow words (write over the same words many times in different colours), pyramid words (start with a single letter at the top of the pyramid and add a letter on each layer) or any other way that helps remember how to spell them.
- through, thought, though, although
- enough, rough, tough,
- cough
- favourite, famous
