22 June 2020 : Home learning
Morning!
The teachers at school have been talking to some families who are continuing to learn from home recently. There was a common topic of conversation : this is all dragging on and becoming quite tricky at times!
It has been a long time since we have all been back at school with our classes and we understand that home learning is challenging. Here are a few links that might help if you are wanting more activities to engage your child.
Top Marks is great for working on all number facts and you can try to improve your own score. We use this in school on iPads but can also be played on laptops : https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Numbots and Times Table Rockstars passwords are the same : https://play.numbots.com/#/intro or https://ttrockstars.com/ Email your teacher if you have lost it.
Loads of resources on here including reading : https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resources/parents
For reading and phonics games : https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/
Maths teaching videos and other resources : https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/
Variety of lessons, recorded by teachers : https://classroom.thenational.academy/
We love Go Noodle for a sing and dance : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2YBT7HYqCbbvzu3kKZ3wnw
Or Cosmic Yoga Kids for a more relaxing workout : https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga
Please ring school or email your child’s teacher if you need support and we will try to help.
Weekly spellings :
Y1 : play, today, away, spray, beans, dream, seat, mean
Y2 : cry, fly, dry, try, reply, July, baby, funny, lucky, bunny
Times tables : Choose any times tables and division facts that you want to work on.
Maths
Watch the video about adding 2 two digit numbers – crossing ten : https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cY1D6kCaU1
Choose 2 or more items from the shop and add them together. Use what you know about adding one and two digit numbers together to help. You might want to draw the tens and ones, draw a part whole model or partition the numbers.
Reading
Watch and read the Gerald the Giraffe story. Lots of our learning this week will be linked to this story : https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cY1D61CaZs
Topic – Living and Learning
Watch the video and think about what you could do to make the world a fair place to be where everyone is equal : https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/12/cbeebies-parents-message-racism-12844374/
You could make a poster, draw a picture or write about how you would make the world fair.
In the Cbeebies house we say that everyone is welcome, because we believe that everyone is different and that everyone is equal. It doesn’t matter what you look like, what you sound like or where you come from. Some people are treated unfairly just because of the colour of their skin, and they shouldn’t be. I know that seeing a person for who they really are, and how they make you feel, is beautiful. And I think that it’s really important to talk to your friends and family about these things too, because when we work together we can create change and we can build a better and kinder world for the future and I’m hopeful for that because I believe in you. Because one day, you will be older and you will be looking after the world and all the people in it.

I like to choose one or two larger numbers from the top line. Give yourself 10 points for finding the solution. 5 points for being within 5 of the answer and 1 point for being within 10 of the answer. Once you have 50 points, pat yourself on the back and call it a day – Rachel Riley is proud of you.

18 June 2020: Home Learning
Today’s Thursday message comes in the form of a friendly reminder: it’s Father’s Day on Sunday! (Dads, if you are reading this – pass the phone/tablet/laptop to someone else!)
I’m sure your dads would love it if you made them a Father’s Day card! I have attached some colouring templates that you can colour in if you have easy access to a printer, or if you love drawing (like I know a lot of you do!), you could design your own card – perhaps draw a picture of you and your family or make a list of all the things you love about your dad. If you would like to try something a bit more adventurous or have a bit more time to spare, why don’t you try making an origami card? This video explains the instructions step by step, and all you need is paper and colouring pens/pencils! Easy origami shirts I have tried the video and had to try a few different sizes of paper before I was happy – I found that A5 worked best (half the size of an A4 piece of paper).
