Healthy eating assemblies
The whole federation joined together to take part in an assembly about healthy eating last week. It was very exciting to see the other classes in the other schools! We had these booked in for Health Week last summer, which had to be cancelled.
The Leeds Health and Wellbeing Team delivered the assembly where we learnt all sorts of interesting things about keeping healthy and finished off with an interactive quiz.
Parachute fun!
Following on from last weeks Science lesson, the children have been investigating air resistance further. They came to the conclusion that the amount of air resistance on an object is affected by the surface area. This week the children were investigating whether different materials used for the parachute canopies, changed the amount of air resistance acting upon it. They made different parachutes using a range of materials, making sure they kept the canopy the same size, the weight the same and the string length the same. We then tested them out by dropping them from the same height. Can your child remember which parachute landed first? Why was this?
5/6B Certificate Celebration
Here are our certificate winners this week:
For great living and learning…
Zoe – You understand that we are all the same and we are all different. You express and articulate your views really well, standing up for equality in all aspects. During Newsround, you were very vocal about the point of girls football academies shutting during lockdown and boys being allowed to continue. This is the kind of issue we want pupils to identify and express their views on. Great job, Zoe!
For sport and physical activity…
Joe – In our basketball session, you demonstrated good tactics, movement skills and coordination in a small-sided game. You worked very efficiently with others and you have a fantastic competitive spirit! Well done, Joe!
For great learning…
Daniel B – Your teachers have seen a huge shift in the amount of work you are doing. Your learning knowledge has improved and you are giving 100% effort in everything you are doing. Great work, Daniel – keep it up!

Pyramid Mathematicians
This week, in Topic, we have combined our knowledge of maths with our knowledge of how the pyramids were built in Ancient Egyptian times. The children had to predict how many blocks would be needed to make pyramids of different sizes. We use some cubes to help us. We also had a go at measuring ourselves using palms and cubits – Ancient Egyptian measuring units. This was great fun!
Living and Learning: I know we are all the same and we’re all different
We have been looking at stereotypes and discussing how we can challenge them.
“Girls were told that they were only good for cooking and cleaning. Now, they know they can do anything.”
“Some stereotypes can lead to unhappiness . Unhappiness can lead to mental health issues.”
“It is important to challenge stereotypes because they are not true and bad stereotypes will effect the views of children in a negative way. I can challenge stereotypes by defying them and doing what I’m told I cant do.”
Children in Need
We are going to be celebrating BBC Children in Need on Friday 13 November.
The Junior Leadership Team voted for a ‘dress as you like day.’ Children can come to school in non-uniform.
We would like to raise as much money as possible for Children in Need and are therefore asking for a voluntary donation. On the morning of the 13th, there will be some buckets placed in the playground for you to drop off your donations.
Thank you in advance for your support and co-operation.
The Junior Leadership Team
5/6B Certificate Celebration
Here are the certificate winners for this week…
For great living and learning skills…
Nathan – you are always polite, kind and welcoming to both adults and other pupils. You are the first to ‘ping pong’ questions back to others, showing that you are caring and interested in the other person. You are a fantastic role model as you always follow school rules. Well done, Nathan!
For sport and physical activity…
Elijah – during our first basketball lesson this half term, you managed to keep close control throughout the dribbling tasks. Your resilience is improving – you picked up the ball and tried to dribble with your weaker hand again so that you could improve. Great job, Elijah!
For great learning…
Ella – throughout all subjects, you are a responsible, active learner. You take safe risks by putting your hand up regularly. You are also the first to help and aid other learners by sharing your ideas and offering guidance. You are a brilliant example of a pupil that drives to improve themselves in every way. Super stuff, Ella!

School Council
The School Council met today to make a few plans for this term. Our first bit of exciting news is that the School Council have been re-branded as ‘The Junior Leadership Team.’
We discussed some ideas for Children in Need, which is taking place on Friday 13 November. The team decided that we would do a non-uniform day and collect donations. More information will be sent out on Monday.
The team are currently discussing what our new charity is going to be this year, so we’ll keep you posted when we’ve decided.
