Living and Learning: Apologising
This week’s Living and Learning statement is:
I apologise when I need to.
This week, Year 1 and 2 children have discussed the importance of apologising when they need to. We talked about a time when we’ve apologised and how it made the person feel.
Sometimes, accidents happen. We discussed how it is important to say sorry to make the other person know you didn’t do it on purpose. This is often the first step to make the other person feel better, especially if your mistake made them feel sad or hurt.
Having good manners is respectful. Recognising you have done something wrong and then apologising shows you are being respectful and following our school rules.
Sleeping Beauty trip
We are looking forward to our trip to see Sleeping Beauty. The letter is below. Please return to the office as soon as possible. Thank you.
Dear parents/carers
The Key Stage One Team have arranged a visit to see Sleeping Beauty at the Carriageworks Theatre on Tuesday 26 November 2019. We will be reading various traditional tales and this is a great opportunity for the children to compare different variations of the story. Seeing and experiencing a story first hand will also help when we do the follow-up drama, art, writing and reading activities in school.
Children should arrive at school in school uniform at the normal time. We will be leaving around 9:15am and returning before the end of the school day. Children will need a packed lunch on that day. Please complete the slip below indicating if your child would like a school packed lunch or if they will be bringing their own.
The cost of the visit is £17, which includes the coach and ticket to the performance.
Please note, although payments for school visits are voluntary, if we do not receive enough voluntary contributions, this trip will have to be cancelled. The school does not have sufficient funds to subsidise children who have not paid. However, if you have particular circumstances that you wish to discuss individually, please contact the school office – we may be able to set up a payment plan or help in other ways.

Let’s keep children safe and talk about PANTS!
We have been talking about pants again! Children love talking about pants and find them funny but we use it in school to deliver a serious safeguarding message. The NSPCC have created some fab resources for us, and you, to use when teaching our children how to keep themselves safe. Ask your child about the PANTS rule and sing along to the catchy song!
Living and Learning: Democracy
At Scholes, we democratically voted for our school councillors during the last week of term.
Here are our new school council representatives.
We look forward to their enthusiasm and leadership qualities.
Homework – memorise and perform a poem
We had some wonderful recitals of poems children had been learning this week in our homework review sessions. Being able to remember or memorise things is a useful skill for all children.
Living and learning : democracy, pupil voice and School Council elections
The children took part in the School Council elections today. Everyone had a chance for their ‘voice’ to be heard and cast their vote. Well done to the children who were elected and will represent us for the next year.
Science with socks…
This week’s science lesson, we tried to find out which sock was the stretchiest. We worked scientifically to measure the socks before and after stretching and talked about how we could find out which was the stretchiest. The children love science and always have lots of ideas, suggestions and opinions when we are investigating.
Amazing art topic
Our topic this half term has had an art focus. We are reading The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton and the children have become fascinated with trees. We observed them closely on our walk around Scholes and learnt some tips on how to draw them. This week, we have been learning about how to give pictures texture and made our own tree collages.
