Home Is Where The Heart Is
Reception have really enjoyed using the home corner to develop their imagination and confidence based on their own family experiences.
We would like to enhance our home corner with real family photos to show how all families are different and how we are all unique.
If you would like to send a photo to be used within our classroom, email a family photo to scholesf2@spherefederation.org
PE in Reception….
A quick reminder that from this week, PE sessions for both Sunshine and Rainbow Class will take place on a Wednesday and Friday. Please send your child to school in their PE clothes on these days.
Thank you.
Phonics Fun and Zero Heroes!
Reception have been AMAZING in their first ‘carpet time’ learning sessions this week.
We’ve been playing listening games in phonics. We listened for sounds in the environment by going on a ‘sound walk’ outside and tried our best to hear the same sounds in rhyming words, by playing ‘Silly Soup’. Yesterday, our classroom ‘Everywhere Bear’ used toy-talk to sound out some words for us to blend.
Ask your child if they can show you one of the phonics games we have been playing this week.
In maths this week our focus number is zero. It’s really important that children understand the ‘value’ of zero. As the Numberblocks told us:
“When there’s nothing there to count and none is the amount”
The children have been super speedy at understanding that that to get to zero, we “take it all away” or there is nothing to begin with. We’ve been making some funny zero number stories together too!
The class really enjoyed our Numberblocks video this week. If you’d like to access these at home, all of the episodes are available to watch on BBC iPlayer
Please continue to send us news of your child’s interests and learning at home:

Leeds Needs Trees
Leeds City Council have launched a scheme to increase the number of trees around the city. Collect tree seeds (conkers, acorns, beech nuts and sweet chestnuts) and take them to a collection point around the city. The Arium is the closest one to school and you will be helping create new habitats for birds and animals.
Another week of fun in Rainbow Class!🌈
A week full of apple collecting, pretend “bonfire” building, Numberblocks creating, train-track building, painting, music and more!
Based on the children’s interests, we’re going conker crazy on the maths table in Rainbow room next week. We’ll be weighing, comparing and counting. The small world table has been changed to a space theme after seeing lots of great role-play with our rocket 🚀 .
I wonder if you will find any ‘ready’ conkers on a walk this weekend? Perhaps you will find something else interesting on your walk in nature instead?
Although you cannot bring special things into school at the moment, please don’t forget to email us with any new interests, achievements or news that your child would like to share with the class:

Wearing PE kit to school – which days?
Hopefully you have read the information in the Autumn for all – Key Info Scholes, which also has a link to our uniform policy.
On the days your child has PE, they should come to school in their PE kit. (Track-suit bottoms instead of shorts would be good on colder days. Footwear : black/brown/grey/white flat shoes which are safe to run around in.)
Footwear on PE days could be children’s ‘school shoes’ which are often a ‘trainer’ style anyway, if you want to avoid having to buy 2 pairs of shoes.
Please find below the days each class has allocated PE times, which will be taught outdoors, except in extreme weather.
